Pearl Grading

A reputable pearl dealer will clearly state grading information for the sale of any pearl product, including the pearl size, color, shape, surface, nacre thickness and luster. A purchase from any retailer without a clear grading system should be avoided, and a buyer should also consider all of these pearl quality factors when comparing prices among different retailers.

The industry accepted grading system is A-AAA, with AAA denoting the highest pearl quality. An AAAA or AAA+ grading system is not an industry accepted term and is often employed by some dealers to confuse unwitting customers into thinking they have better quality.
